Queen cells installed into mating colonies

Autumn conditions on Kangaroo Island are excellent for raising highly productive queens for future honey harvesting. This is due to the temperate climate, reliable rainfall, and unspoilt native vegetation which covers 45% of the land.

  2. Beekeeping (or apiculture) is the maintenance of bee colonies, commonly in man-made hives, by humans. Most such bees are honey bee hive in the genus Apis, but other honey-producing bees such as Melipona stingless bees are also kept.
